TrinityRail is searching for an Industrial Wastewater Facility Operator in our Shell Rock, Iowa facility. 

In this role, you will operate the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility and manage waste storage and disposal in support of our Railcar Cleaning Operations. We welcome your business leadership and people leadership and drive to excellence.

What you’ll do:

  • Operate the wastewater treatment equipment to include, but not limited to: the Collection System, Equalization system, Physical and Chemical Treatment System, Distribution System, and the Sludge Handling System
  • Test wastewater samples to determine acidity and impurities
  • Perform regular sampling of process streams, sludge tanks, and effluent
  • Ensure that every gallon of wastewater produced is fully compliant with Federal, State and local permits
  • Prepare and maintain records from sample testing and analysis, wastewater discharge, equipment calibration and storage tank levels
  • Accurately make RCRA waste characterizations on a wide range of products and chemicals and facility waste as hazardous or non-hazardous
  • Maintain an inventory documenting the facility’s monthly hazardous waste generation rate and amount of hazardous waste stored on-site
  • Ensure compliance of the facility’s Hazardous Waste handling and storage guidelines according to local and Federal (RCRA & DOT) regulations to include weekly inspection of the storage areas and accumulation sites
  • Prepare and label hazardous and non-hazardous waste containers according to RCRA and DOT regulations
  • Provide and maintain all records of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to prove compliance for the ISO 140001 Environmental Management
  • System and EPA audits
  • Schedule waste for disposal

What you'll need:

  • 2 Year Technical Degree (Environmental, Chemistry, Biology, etc.) or High School Diploma/GED with 3 or more years of experience in an Industrial Wastewater Treatment facility
  • Experience with physical and chemical precipitation processes
  • Experience with wastewater process flow and reactions occurring within the treatment and recovery system
  • Experience with waste characterization and storage compliance under RCRA
  • Experience with labeling and manifesting waste compliance with DOT regulations
  • Good working knowledge of chemicals and chemistry
  • Solid computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.), ability to complete data entry in other software programs
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders, and work effectively in hot and cold work environments
  • Must be able to be able to lift/carry 50+ lbs - occasional

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years in a laboratory or industrial waste water setting in a similar role
  • 5 years of experience operating a wastewater treatment facility
  • Strong maintenance and mechanical background
  • Experience with plumbing and water transfer is preferred
  • Water treatment operator certifications
  • Railcar or tank cleaning experience preferred
