Trinity Industries Services Expansion Team is seeking an experienced IoT Solutions Engineer for our Dallas, TX HQ.  

This role will provide technical expertise, strategic guidance and support throughout the selling and customer onboarding process. They will work closely with our Account Executives to understand the customer’s needs, scope the best solution to meet the customer’s unique requirements, and articulate the value of the proposed solutions via discoveries and demonstrations. This role helps Trinity maintain its position on the leading edge of IoT solution technology and will also be responsible for working with application engineering, GPS and sensor hardware OEMs, and technical subject matter experts as well as new car product and engineering teams, IT and Security teams and any other customer representatives to articulate our technical specifications and qualifications as they evaluate our packaged solutions. Ultimately, this role uses subject matter expertise to drive solutions and sales and set our customers and implementation teams up for long-term success.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as Trinity’s subject matter expert on IoT services and solutions:  

o    Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to internal teams as well as existing and prospective customers.  
o    Provide product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information in response to requests or to enable successful installation and usage
o    Prepares performance reporting by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing IoT performance, engineering and application trends as well as leading testing plan for new devices to be implemented
o    Review infrastructure designs for completeness and solution compatibility with partners and other selected 3rd party vendors
o    Track open issues with vendor/partners and lead projects to support and rectify through to solution
o    Collaborate with Suppliers, Sales, Engineering, and Device Manager to test new IOT solutions, ensure suppliers are compliant with industry regulatory requirements. The test plan to include, but not limited to: ideal install location, comparative analysis with currently offered solutions, battery life, alerts/geofence, data accuracy/latency, plan vs actual performance, recommendation
o    Review industry trend resources and attend conferences (Rail, IOT, connect with suppliers, etc.) to capture and report up customer/industry IOT needs and solutions
o    Engage with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine future system requirements and collaborate with product and engineering teams to align requests to roadmaps
o    Collaborate with application product teams to maintain working hardware and software solutions including vendor recommendations, reporting and issue management 
o    Create and deliver installation materials and training for internal and external installation projects 

  • Contribute to pre-sales and sales success through close collaboration with Sales team and customers / prospective customers, including:

o    Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements, recommend the best possible solution (hardware, software), and create (where appropriate) statements of work for proposed solution
o    Provide configuration recommendations and implementation assistance for new deployments, including consulting with customer’s technical teams and network engineers to articulate solution requirements / specs
o    Drive technical responses to RFIs & RFPs alongside our team of subject matter experts
o    Contribute to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed, recommending options and courses of action, and implementing directives
o    Respond timely and appropriately to follow ups and requests for the client

  • Assist with customer onboarding to ensure proper implementation; contribute to customer success by consulting and facilitating onboarding requirements to meet sold solutions
  • Ensure each of the responsibilities will be accomplished with authentic service, attention to detail, sense of urgency, responsiveness, follow-up, genuine care, and passion

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field preferred or a combination of 7 years work/education equivalent
  • 5+ years of Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or other IoT Infrastructure experience or equivalent
  • 2+ years in enterprise platform product management roles with a focus on analytics and APIs
  • History of successfully launching and iterating on SaaS B2B products
  • Experience with product discovery processes (structured client interviews, product discovery sprints, …)
  • Bias to-action and hands-on experience delivering business results
  • Domain experience in transportation, supply chain industry
  • Industrial IoT experience
  • Familiarity with B2B products and working with B2B sales teams
  • Effectively understand customer technical requirements while interacting with both technical and non-technical people
  • Build business cases and to drive data driven roadmap decisions
  • Strong technical understanding, ability to establish credibility with engineers
  • Experience working with global, cross functional teams to ensure the success of the defined strategy
  • Experience with API design
  • Experience with agile product development processes
  • Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts/protocols: Routing and Switching, VLANs, IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, TCP/IP, HTTPs, SSL, TLS, SSH, SSO
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be comfortable presenting to customers, executives, and internal audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office productivity suites (Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proficient in CRM software
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
